The Chicago Regional Office (www.ajcchicago.org), chartered in 1944, is one of 25 regional offices nationwide.  AJC’s Chicago work engages key community stakeholders to establish profound and long lasting understanding and relationships.

ACTIVITIES & RESULTS

Thinkinc. was retained by AJC Chicago to provide strategic media relations and social media outreach to generate awareness of the three-city tour of the national exhibition, “Jewish Refugees and Shanghai.” The exhibit, co-hosted by the American Jewish Committee (AJC) Chicago regional office and the Shanghai Jewish Refugee Museum, portrayed the story of European Jews’ immigration to Shanghai during the Holocaust.

As part of AJC Chicago’s mission to enhance the creative vitality and connectivity of the Jewish people, both in the Chicago region and globally, this exhibit served to bring two distinct cultural communities together around a common cause and celebration of Sino-Judaic relations. The exhibition opening featured several high profile guests, including Governor John Huntsman and author Linda Frank, as well as several Holocaust survivors who shared their first-hand experiences as Jewish refugees in Shanghai.

Thinkinc. spearheaded a targeted media strategy to generate awareness and attendance, as well as media interest for the special exhibition at the James R. Thompson Center. Prior to the exhibition opening, Thinkinc. worked with AJC leadership to develop a list of key media outlets for outreach. Thinkinc. reached out to local Holocaust survivors and crafted messaging and positioning that would set the story apart from recent media coverage about Jewish refugees who had found refuge in Shanghai and incorporated this messaging into press materials.

Additionally, through strategically designed social media campaigns, Thinkinc. effectively articulated the relevance of the exhibition, engaging a number of media outlets while also cultivating a buzz among a wider online audience.
